The film is based on the comics of Enki Bilal, known as 'The Nikopol Trilogy'. It includes: 'The Fair of the Immortals', 'The Female Trap', and 'Cold Equator'.
According to director Enki Bilal, he named the main character Nikopol after the city of Nikopol in Ukraine.
