Short description
Ethan Hunt and his team are racing against time to track down a dangerous terrorist named Hendricks, who has gained access to Russian nuclear launch codes and is planning a strike on the United States. An attempt to stop him ends in an explosion causing severe destruction to the Kremlin and the IMF to be implicated in the bombing, forcing the President to disavow them. No longer being aided by the government, Ethan and his team chase Hendricks around the globe, although they might still be too late to stop a disaster.
What's left behind the scenes
- The director's position was offered to Edgar Wright.
- Anthony Mackie, Christopher Egan, and Kevin Zegers were considered for the role that ultimately went to Jeremy Renner.
- As part of the promotional campaign for the film's premiere in Georgia, Georgian climber Giorgi Kobakhidze recreated stunts performed by Tom Cruise's character from the film, descending on a rope down the glass wall of one of the tallest buildings in Tbilisi – the 21-story Holiday Inn hotel.
- Four days of filming for the film's initial establishing shots took place on Red Square and Vasilyevsky Spusk. However, the main Moscow scenes were filmed in Prague (Czech Republic).
- While Hunt receives instructions on infiltrating the Kremlin near a phone booth, he is told he will be provided with documents in the name of Army General Anatoly Fedorov. However, when the ID is checked on the detector screen, a different name appears: Alexander Samokhvalov.
- When Ethan breaks the glass in the Burj Khalifa window, his gloved hand is seen above the cut circle in the external shots, but on the line of the cut in the internal shots.
