• The witch's house at the beginning of the cartoon is modeled after the motel run by Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock's thriller "Psycho" (1960).
• Nikki Flippers turned out to be the last character voiced by David Ogden Stiers in his life.
• Hayden Panettiere voiced the Hat, although initially it was assumed that the Hat would speak with the voice of Anne Hathaway. According to screenwriter Corey Edwards, they decided to find another voice actress due to Hathaway's recent successes.
• For reasons that remain unknown, Martin Short voiced Kirk, not James Belushi, as in the first cartoon ('Red Riding Hood: True Story,' 2005).
