• Work on the film lasted for more than two years.
• Old buildings in Tallinn were used as the basis for the image of the wall, to which light, smoke and snow were added. Many locations had to be completed using computer graphics. These include a special hangar where huge airships land. The film also features a magical forest, entirely created with computer graphics.
• Filming took place in Saint Petersburg, the Leningrad Region, and at "Mosfilm". In Gatchina, scenes of the Security Department's residence and mysterious underground passages beneath the city were shot. The rebels' headquarters was filmed at the "Spartak" cinema in Saint Petersburg, and Outcasts' Street was filmed at the "Red Triangle" factory (old, red-brick, semi-ruined buildings).
