Short description
After the Evil Queen marries the King, she performs a violent coup in which the King is murdered and his daughter, Snow White, is taken captive. Almost a decade later, a grown Snow White is still in the clutches of the Queen. In order to obtain immortality, The Evil Queen needs the heart of Snow White. After Snow escapes the castle, the Queen sends the Huntsman to find her in the Dark Forest.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The film is based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (Schneewittchen).
  • Angelina Jolie and Winona Ryder were considered for the role of Ravenna, the Evil Queen.
  • Charlize Theron turned down a role in "J. Edgar" (2011) for this film.
  • Johnny Depp, Tom Hardy, and Michael Fassbender were considered for the role of Eric, the Huntsman.
  • Negotiations with Viggo Mortensen for the role of the Huntsman, which lasted several months, were unsuccessful.
  • After negotiations with Viggo Mortensen fell through, the role was offered to Hugh Jackman, who also declined.
  • Dakota Fanning, Saoirse Ronan, Riley Keough, Alicia Vikander, Bella Heathcote, Selena Gomez, Emily Browning, Lily Collins, and Felicity Jones were considered for the role of Snow White.
  • During filming, Kristen Stewart accidentally hit Chris Hemsworth in the face, leaving him with a bruise under his eye.
  • Filming was temporarily suspended in October 2011 after Kristen Stewart injured her thumb during a fight scene with the dwarfs. Stewart also suffered a leg injury sustained on set. Lily Collins competed with Kristen Stewart for the lead role, but lost. She later starred in 'Snow White and the Huntsman' (2012).
  • Kristen Stewart admitted that she had to overcome a fear of horses during filming, which stemmed from a childhood incident at age nine where she suffered an elbow injury.
  • Instead of wearing a wig, actor Sam Sprouell had his hair cut in the style of a page for the role of Finn. His hair was bleached, and shaved under the bangs. He described it as "good for the film, but just awful for everyday life."
  • The film is one of the few cinematic adaptations of the fairy tale where dwarves are not played by actual little people, but rather technical effects are used to make actors appear smaller. This sparked harsh criticism among people of short stature. One of them, actor Warwick Davis, publicly compared it to what it would be like if someone tried to "black up" a white actor for the role of a Black character.
  • Several dwarves are named after trees from the Celtic Tree Calendar, widely used by those who follow Celtic pagan traditions: Beith-Birch, Coll-Hazel, Dair-Oak, Gort-Ivy, Muir-Vine, Nion-Ash.
  • Charlize Theron stated that the most difficult thing for her was walking in the dress she wore when she married King Magnus. The corset was incredibly uncomfortable and practically bent her over by the time she bowed at the altar.
  • During the final battle, when William knocks one of the soldiers off the bridge, he screams the "William scream" as he falls.
  • In one shot, when Snow White is riding a white horse, she is sitting on it bareback or without anything similar. In the next shot, a white blanket is visible on the horse's back. And then the blanket disappears again.
  • When Snow White rides through the village, the legs and body of her white horse are covered in mud. In the next shot, the horse is completely white.
  • After Snow White escapes from the tower, she rides a horse and in some shots you can see her sitting in the saddle and holding the reins with her hands, while at other times she rides without them, and this happens several times.
  • Snow White was locked in a tower her entire life, yet later, after leaving the tower, she is able to gallop on a horse without any training.
  • During her first encounter with the Huntsman, Snow White steals his knife. In a subsequent scene, the knife in her hand is pointed in different directions, first away from her, then towards her.
  • When Ravenna “dissolves” into black substance after giving the apple to Snow White, a nylon mesh can be seen on her cape, which disappears in the next frame.
  • When Snow White is given a chance to escape, she is lying in bed, but not barefoot, she is wearing shoes.
  • In the final shot before the credits, the doors to the coronation hall are shown closing. In the coronation scene beforehand, the doors are already closed.
  • In the castle sewers, the dwarves say: “Six dwarves against an army!? They’ll hardly hold out.” In this scene, only five dwarves are visible. According to the plot, there are two fewer dwarves in their ranks, and earlier in the film, eight dwarves were seen.
  • When Snow White lies “dead” in the white dress, the position of her legs changes from frame to frame, first together, then slightly apart, and finally together again.
  • The film is based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale "Snow White" (Schneewittchen).
