Short description
A romantic comedy about a family traveling to the French capital for business. The party includes a young engaged couple forced to confront the illusion that a life different from their own is better.

What's left behind the scenes

  • On the film's poster, Owen Wilson is depicted walking against the backdrop of Van Gogh's famous painting "The Starry Night" (1889-90).
  • Woody Allen's first film to gross over $100 million worldwide.
  • Woody Allen did not attend the 2012 Academy Awards ceremony. The film was awarded Best Original Screenplay, but the director continued his tradition of never attending the event, as he is not a member of the Academy. The director made only one exception in 2002, when he participated in the ceremony to pay tribute to the tragic events in New York on September 11, 2001.
  • The plot that Gil discusses with Luis Buñuel was used in the film "The Exterminating Angel" (1962).
  • While filming in Paris, Woody Allen stayed at the "Le Bristol" hotel, the same one where Gil and Inez's characters stayed.
  • The painting Picasso is working on in the film is “Bathers 4” (1928). By that time, he had already been in a relationship with Maria-Theresa Walter for a year, who was the subject of several of his paintings and would give birth to his daughter in a couple of years.
  • Gil first meets Hemingway at the “Polidor” restaurant. Returning to 2010, Gil finds a laundromat in the restaurant’s place. However, the restaurant still existed in Paris in 2010.
