What's left behind the scenes
- Initially, the film was intended to receive an R rating, but during the first week of filming, the studio decided to change the rating to PG-13 to attract a larger audience.
- The film is set in the fictional city of Brandon in the 1930s, i.e., during the Great Depression. They were created by the film's production designer, Wulf Krueger, and built from scratch in Canada. According to some sources, the project cost $2.5 million, making it the largest film set ever constructed in Canada.
