Short description
A man refuses all assistance from his daughter as he ages and, as he tries to make sense of his changing circumstances, he begins to doubt his loved ones, his own mind and even the fabric of his reality.

What's left behind the scenes

  • During a doctor's appointment, Anthony states his date of birth as Friday, December 31, 1937. On that day, Anthony Hopkins was born, for whom the role was originally written.
  • Florian Zeller really wanted Anthony Hopkins to play the main role. That's why the character's name is the same as the actor's name. If he had refused, Zeller would have tried to make the film in French.
  • Anthony Hopkins suggested the aria from Georges Bizet's opera 'The Pearl Fishers' to the director as the musical piece his character listens to.
