• Actors from the original Broadway production auditioned for the roles, but Ryan Murphy decided to cast stars.
• Nicole Kidman plays Angie Dickinson, a chorus girl who quit her job after 20 years of performing the same part in the musical "Chicago" because the producers wouldn't let her play the role of Roxie Hart. In reality, Kidman herself turned down the role of Roxie Hart in Rob Marshall's musical "Chicago" in 2002.
• Dee Dee sings about once being denied the role of Eva Perón (1919-1952) in the Broadway musical "Evita." Dee Dee is played by Meryl Streep, who almost landed the role of Eva in Alan Parker's film "Evita" (1996). Streep did a lot of vocal training to get the role, but it ultimately went to Madonna.
• At one point, it was suggested that actress and singer Ariana Grande would play the role of Alice. She was also supposed to produce the film's soundtrack. Unfortunately, Grande was forced to leave the project due to her world tour in support of the album Sweetener (2018).
