What's left behind the scenes
- The film is based on the story of Bob Odenkirk – his home was broken into twice. He managed to lock one intruder in his own basement until the police arrived. The screenplay explores a character who would solve the problem differently.
- According to Bob Odenkirk, he prepared for this role for two years.
- Some of the ideas used in the plot, including the concept of a 'common pot', director Ilya Naishuller recounted to an acquaintance from the Russian mafia, who confirmed that it was all quite plausible.
- Bob Odenkirk performed almost all of his stunts himself and filmed the fight scenes himself.
- The idea of Hutch hitting his head against the handrail at the beginning of the bus scene came from Bob Odenkirk himself, to emphasize that this is not just another movie hero.
- The tattoo on Hutch’s arm (seven of spades and two of clubs) is statistically the worst possible hand a player can be dealt at the start of a poker game (referring to Texas Hold'em – the most popular variation of this card game), as they are the two lowest-ranking cards, a straight cannot be made between them (there are four cards between two and seven), and they are of different suits. Therefore, when these two cards are dealt, they should be immediately discarded, because winning is practically impossible.
- One of the villains on the bus is played by Daniel Bernhard. He is a Swiss and American actor and martial artist who helped prepare Bob Odenkirk for the fight scene.
- Connie Nielsen agreed to a practically unnoticed and insignificant role as the main character's wife in the hope that this film would launch a new franchise.
- The film's release was delayed four times due to the coronavirus pandemic. It was initially scheduled for August 18, 2020, but was postponed to February 26, 2021, then moved to February 19, and again to February 26, 2021. Eventually, the film was released on March 26, 2021.
- After Hutch is given a gun, he also receives a light slap. Billy McLellan first came up with this idea, but he was afraid to suggest it to Bob Odenkirk and offered the idea to the director.
- Seeing how selflessly Bob Odenkirk was preparing for the role, director Ilya Naishuller started going to the gym.
