Short description
After his retirement is interrupted by Gorr the God Butcher, a galactic killer who seeks the extinction of the gods, Thor Odinson enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Korg, and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who now wields Mjolnir as the Mighty Thor. Together they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Christian Bale, who had previously worked with Christopher Nolan on the sci-fi action film “The Dark Knight Rises” (2012), had initially refused to star in this film or any other superhero project, believing that acting in this genre would not offer him anything new in terms of acting skills. The actor changed his mind because director and screenwriter Taika Waititi made a lasting impression on him, as did the script he was offered.
  • Chris Hemsworth bulked up so much for the role in this film that his weight reached 105 kilograms (more than for any other role in his repertoire). Because of this muscle mass, he had to eat 8 times a day throughout the entire shoot just to maintain it.
  • The god of Korg sits on a throne of scissors because scissors lose to rock in the game “rock-paper-scissors”.
  • The film features Thor's goats, named Tangrisnir and Tangniost. These characters appear in both the legends of Thor and the comics. Their constant screaming is a reference to a popular internet video featuring a screaming goat.
  • The idea to have Zeus speak with a Greek accent came from Russell Crowe, the actor who played Zeus. Director Taika Waititi wanted Zeus to speak with a British accent, so he asked the actor to deliver all his lines twice – once with a Greek accent and once with a British accent. It was only after this that Waititi realized Crowe was right, and the character needed a Greek accent.
  • Christian Bale almost left the project due to scheduling issues. He usually prefers longer breaks between shoots, but this time he only had three days between finishing filming on another project (in Los Angeles) and the start of mandatory quarantine in Australia due to COVID restrictions. The actor was persuaded to work with Waititi by his own children.
  • Natalie Portman is 1.60 meters tall, while Chris Hemsworth is 1.91 meters tall. During filming, she had to stand next to her partner on a platform raised above the ground.
  • On the chest of Thor's garment is an image of something resembling a tree. This is the world tree Yggdrasil, a gigantic ash tree that the Scandinavians envisioned as the universe.
  • Thor believes that goats are for eating. In Norse mythology, Thor repeatedly slaughtered goats for meat, which he ate, and then resurrected the goats.
  • During the battle for the city, it becomes clear that the city guards have not crimson blood in their veins, but something golden in color. According to ancient Greek mythology, the veins of the gods contain not blood, but ichor.
  • Christian Bale, who had previously worked with Christopher Nolan on the sci-fi action film "The Dark Knight Rises" (2012), initially refused to appear in this film or any other superhero project, believing that acting in the genre would not offer him anything new in terms of acting skill. The actor changed his mind after being deeply impressed by director and screenwriter Taika Waititi, as well as the script itself.
