Short description
Un Chien Andalou is an European avant-garde surrealist film, a collaboration between director Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dali.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Southerners were disparagingly called "Andalusian hounds" at the Student Residence; the nickname meant a slob, mama's boy, clumsy person, blunderer, and so on.
  • Pierre Batcheff and Simone Mareuil committed suicide at different times; Mareuil set herself on fire in 1954, and Batcheff died from a veronal overdose in 1932.
  • For filming the scene with a razor cut to a girl's eye, the eye of a dead cow was used.
