What's left behind the scenes
- When the students go out onto the basketball court, Lauryn Hill’s character begins to rap. This scene was improvised.
- The cinematographer had to resort to all sorts of tricks to avoid showing the arthritic hands of James Coburn (1928-2002) in the frame.
- The famous high note performed by Ryan Toby in the song "Oh, Happy Day" is an "E", one of the highest and most difficult to perform. Toby was 16 years old at the time of filming.
