What's left behind the scenes
- The 'Blue Thunder' helicopter in the film is a French Gazelle helicopter fitted with an AH-64 style cockpit and other props.
- The scene where "Blue Thunder" performs a Nesterov loop during an aerial battle was filmed using a radio-controlled model, but is not a directorial invention – some types of helicopters (in particular, the Ka-50) can actually perform this aerobatic maneuver.
- In the video games Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the film is mentioned as an "easter egg": the police mission (Vigilante Mission) performed in the Hunter combat helicopter is called "Brown Thunder".
