According to director Michael Sarnoski, the pig was trained for only three days, during which it repeatedly charged at Nicolas Cage and bit him. After one particularly painful bite, the actor joked that during filming he had to be burned and involved in car accidents, but it seemed he was destined to die from a pig bite infection.
The film's budget was so small that the filmmakers simply couldn't afford to hire a trained pig.
