- Dan's story is inspired by the real-life case of American journalist Terry Anderson, who was kidnapped and held hostage by Hezbollah militants from 1985 to 1991 during the Lebanese Civil War. At the time of his release, Anderson was the journalist who had spent the longest time in captivity. Daga was kidnapped for religious reasons, while the motives for Anderson's kidnapping were different – he was captured in retaliation for US actions supporting Israel during the 1982 Israeli invasion of Lebanon.
