What's left behind the scenes
- The film was a box office failure and sparked a storm of criticism from both audiences and critics.
- The sounds of excavators in the film were passed off as the roar of King Kong from the 1976 film of the same name directed by John Guillermin.
- Whoopi Goldberg was considered for the role of Molly at one point, but the director and lead actor Mel Brooks thought he would not be able to convincingly play her partner, and Leslie Ann Warren was cast as Molly instead.
- When Howard Morris's character (1919-2005) dies, his friends cremate his body and scatter the ashes to the wind. A gust of wind blows the ashes back onto the participants of the funeral, and they have to brush them off. According to Mel Brooks, this actually happened to Morris when he was scattering his father's ashes.
