Short description
Everyone in the village of Bouzolles knows the Tuche family, who live by the philosophy "Man is not made to work." Despite their lack of money, they strive to be happy... that is, until their hand-to-mouth existence is turned on its head. After winning the lottery, the Tuches get rich beyond their wildest dreams and move to Monaco. And while attempting to fit in in their swanky new homeland, they struggle to stay true to the same principles by which they've always lived.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The film premiered in France on Friday, July 1st, instead of the usual Wednesday. This was due to the wedding of Prince Albert of Monaco scheduled for that day.
  • The very first draft of the screenplay was written by Philippe Meshel, with whom future director Olivier Barrou had worked on a television show on the French channel Canal+. The Pathe studio bought the script and sent it to Olivier Barrou. He received it early in the morning, read it by two o'clock in the afternoon, and called producer Richard Grandpierre with his agreement at four o'clock.
  • Director Olivier Barrou drew certain parallels between the Touche family and the famous Simpsons.
  • According to the script, the action in the film takes place in the fictional town of Buzole. The small village of Salin de Giraud near Arles was used as a location for filming. Scenes taking place in Monaco were filmed in the resort town of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin and on the surrounding coastline. This was because the authorities of the principality did not grant permission to film in many locations. According to director Olivier Barrou, this turned out to be an advantage, as he was able to recreate his own vision of the Principality of Monaco.
  • The Touche family's villa is located in the resort town of Sanary-sur-Mer on the French Riviera. During the time of Charles de Gaulle, it belonged to the French Minister of the Navy.
  • The title translates to "The Tushes Family".
  • The translation of the title is “The Tushe Family.”
