• Lauren Laverne performed a significant portion of the stunts herself, as she practiced martial arts.
• According to director and screenwriter Damien Leone, the most difficult scene to film was Ellie's murder. For the filming of the final scene, in which Ellie's mother sees Art dismembering her daughter's body, an animatronic Ellie dummy was constructed. The entire room was a set, and the dummy was moved by operators using long poles under the bed and behind the wall. Rubber gloves and tubes were used to create the impression that the dummy was breathing.
• According to Damien Leone, the special effects in the film are 99% practical, but computer technology was still used in some cases. For example, when Ricky dies, a digital image of the actor's face was superimposed onto a prop head. This was done to show how the eye opens and closes. Another scene where computer technology was used was the moment in the bedroom, where an image of the actress's eye was overlaid on the dummy's face – the eye opened when she woke up.
