What's left behind the scenes

  • Michele Morrone was given the film script to read when he had already given up on his acting career. He had just gotten divorced, leaving him penniless, and was in a severe depression, living in a tiny Italian village where he worked on a farm. About six months later, his agent called and told him that Polish filmmakers wanted to cast him as a mafia member. Morrone boarded a plane to Poland that same day.
  • The filmmakers placed great importance on making the erotic scenes in the film look believable, and on ensuring that viewers could even hear whispers and the actors’ heavy breathing. They positioned the camera so it wasn’t conspicuous and didn’t rush the actors, giving them as much time as they needed. The presence of filmmakers on set was minimized. As a result, the scenes looked so realistic that some viewers seriously thought the actors were actually having sex on camera. They had to explain in interviews that this was not the case.
  • Blanka Lipińska, the screenwriter and author of the novel of the same name (2014), which served as the literary source for the screenplay, offered to play the scene with oral sex on board the plane herself, claiming that only she knew exactly how the scene needed to be played so that the audience understood what the filmmakers wanted to convey. Her offer was declined, and an actress played the role of the flight attendant.
