Short description
Cool government operative James Bond searches for a stolen invention that can turn the sun's heat into a destructive weapon. He soon crosses paths with the menacing Francisco Scaramanga, a hitman so skilled he has a seven-figure working fee. Bond then joins forces with the swimsuit-clad Mary Goodnight, and together they track Scaramanga to a Thai tropical isle hideout where the killer-for-hire lures the slick spy into a deadly maze for a final duel.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Christopher Lee, a cousin of Ian Fleming, appears as the main villain named Scaramanga.
  • The film was supposed to be shot instead of “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service,” however, the war in Vietnam made the necessary filming in Cambodia, as required by the plot, impossible.
  • The first Bond film shown in the Kremlin.
  • Both Britt Ekland (Goodnight) and Maud Adams (Andrea) are from Sweden. On set, they often chatted with each other in their native language. And Christopher Lee conversed with Hervé Villechaize (Nick Nack) in French.
  • Several years later, the island where the final duel scene was filmed turned into a real resort, changing its name to “James Bond Island.” In reality, it is the island of Khao Tapao (its original name), located in the Thai province of Phang-Nga.
  • The film was originally planned to be shot in Iran, but the unstable political situation interfered.
  • During a fight in a Beirut cabaret, the actors accidentally shift a mirror, and the reflection reveals the film crew.
  • Several years later, the island where the final duel scene was filmed turned into a real resort, changing its name to “James Bond Island.” In reality, it is Khao Tapu Island (its original name), located in the Thai province of Phang Nga.
