In preparation for filming, all members of the cast underwent hypnosis. James McAvoy claimed that his hypnotic session was successful and that he was unable to move his arm throughout the session.
The film was shot during a break from Danny Boyle's two-year preparation for directing the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. The footage was edited after the Olympics closed.
