The authors of the remake decided to change the names and breeds of the main characters. Young and cheerful American Bulldog Chance was a Labrador Retriever named Quick in the book. Old Golden Retriever Shadow was a Bull Terrier named Dodger. Himalayan cat Sassy was a Siamese cat named Tao.
