Principal photography for the film took place in Oslo, Norway.
The Norwegian Pilots' Association was initially opposed to using Oslo Airport for filming.
Hans-Otto Meyer, a prominent Norwegian financier and shipowner, provided the aircraft for filming. Sean Connery (1930-2020) and Ian McShane received an invitation to his villa, where they were shown (as it later turned out) a secret weapons depot of the Norwegian army in case of the country's occupation. Several years later, Meyer was arrested, and the existence of such depots and plans, previously known only to a few high-ranking government officials, became public knowledge.
