Argentina 1985

In 1985 Argentina, as the country emerges from military rule, a group of prosecutors and lawyers takes on the leaders of the former dictatorship in court. The case is brought against senior military commanders over crimes committed during the years of state repression, at a time when the army still holds considerable influence. Julio Strassera, the lead prosecutor, and Luis Moreno Ocampo, his younger colleague, assemble a legal team of inexperienced and unlikely figures to try a case that divides the nation and puts those involved, along with their families, under constant threat.

The film is directed by Santiago Mitre, who wrote the screenplay with Mariano Llinás. It follows Mitre's Paulina and The Summit in his filmography of directed features. Ricardo Darín plays Strassera, with Peter Lanzani as Moreno Ocampo; Alejandra Flechner, Paula Ransenberg, Carlos Portaluppi and Antonia Bengoechea appear in supporting roles. The production involved more than a hundred credited cast members and close to two hundred credited crew.

Released in September 2022, the film had a budget of about 20 million dollars and took roughly 58 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.6 from around 36,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.8 from 776 votes. A critics' rating of 8 out of 10 from 71 reviews places it above both audience scores.
