Short description
When the devil resurfaces with aims to take over the world in human form, Johnny Blaze reluctantly comes out of hiding to transform into the flame-spewing supernatural hero Ghost Rider -- and rescue a 10-year-old boy from an unsavory end.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The Ghost Rider was created by Roy Thomas, Gary Friedrich, and Mike Ploog. The character first appeared in Marvel Spotlight #5 in 1973. This film is not based on any specific storyline from the comics.
  • Filming began in November 2010 and took place in Romania in the cities of Bucharest, Sibiu, Rovinari, and Hunedoara, at Lake Vidraru, on the Transfăgărășan highway, and at Corvin Castle. Filming also took place in Turkey: in Cappadocia (cave city) and Pamukkale (Greco-Roman theater in the ancient city of Hierapolis).
  • Christopher Lambert had to wear makeup depicting tattoos that completely covered his head. Applying and removing the makeup was such a lengthy process that one day he decided not to remove it at the end of the shooting day, and walked around like that until the end of filming.
  • Once, Nicolas Cage shocked the entire film crew by showing up on set in the makeup of Baron Samedi from Guy Hamilton's (1922-2016) action film “Live and Let Die” (1973), the eighth film in the Bond series, where the character was played by Geoffrey Holder (1930-2014). The flaming skull of the Ghost Rider was added to the footage using digital technology after filming was completed.
  • Peter Fonda (1940-2019) initially expressed a desire to play the Devil again, but after reading the script, he abandoned the idea. This only benefited the filmmakers, who wanted to show that the Devil is capable of inhabiting a wide variety of people.
  • In preparation for the role, Christopher Lambert spent three months practicing fencing and shaved his head.
