What's left behind the scenes

  • "The Vow" is based on the true story of Kim and Krickitt Carpenter. In September 1993, ten weeks after their wedding, the couple was involved in a car accident. Krickitt couldn't remember her husband. After a medical examination, it was discovered that 18 months of her life had been erased from her memory – the 18 months during which she met, fell in love with, and married Kim. Kim did not give up, even when he no longer saw the warmth in his beloved's eyes that he himself felt. The couple was deeply religious, and Kim claims that faith in Christ helped them through this ordeal.
  • Julia Roberts was initially considered for the lead role, but the producers decided it would be better if the main characters were younger.
  • Channing Tatum recounted in an interview that in the scene where he walks completely naked in front of the character played by Rachel McAdams, he wore a prosthetic of an incredibly large size. This was done to achieve a realistic and unforced reaction from the actress. Judging by all accounts, the plan worked.
