What's left behind the scenes

  • Most of the gunshot wounds were created using computer special effects. Pyrotechnic effects were only used in the shootout scene in the ice palace.
  • Thomas Jane declined an offer to play the lead role in the film. Paul Walker was the second candidate for the role of Joey Gazelle.
  • The medical blister pack Oleg uses to determine the address of Dez and Adele's apartment is Zovirax, a medication for treating genital herpes.
  • The word “fuck” is uttered 328 times in the film.
  • Chazz Palminteri’s character was named after Mark Rydell – the director of the film “The Cowboys,” who is frequently referenced in the movie.
  • Oleg says he listens to a famous Russian musician, Kvasha, whose name is Oleg.
  • At the 49th minute, the band "Kirpichi" plays the song "sila uma".
  • Wayne Kramer originally planned for Joey's death to be more graphic, with intestines coming out of the wound. But the director had to abandon this idea to avoid an "NC-17" rating.
