What's left behind the scenes

  • The climax of the party scene, which turned into a brawl when Rachel used telekinesis to shatter a glass door, was filmed only on the third attempt. In the first take, Emily Bergl visibly flinched, and in the second, she clenched her teeth. Only on the third take did the actress show nothing on her face, and the scene was successfully filmed. Real glass was used in this scene, and the actress received multiple cuts to her back, arms, and legs with each take. That’s why Bergl is never shown from behind after filming this scene.
  • Sissy Spacek was offered a cameo role in this sequel to the horror film “Carrie” (Brian De Palma, 1976), but she declined the offer. However, the actress gave director Cate Shortland permission to use scenes featuring her from De Palma's film in flashbacks.
  • A loose adaptation of a story that took place in real life in 1993, when a group of high school students, members of the school's sports team, became involved in a sex scandal.
  • Initially, at the start of filming, it was assumed that this would be a film based on an original story, but producers soon noticed the similarity to Brian De Palma’s “Carrie” (1976) and made it a sequel.
  • Several weeks after work began on the film, director Robert Mandel left the project due to creative differences, and Katt Shea took over all directing duties.
  • The film nearly ended up shelved, and its release occurred just three weeks before the Columbine High School massacre on April 20, 1999 (in which 13 people died and 23 were injured). According to MGM executives, if the film had been completed even slightly later, it would not have been released as a sign of solidarity with the victims of the Columbine shooting and their families, as the film also tells the story of a student who took revenge on their tormentors.
  • When Mena Suvari's character jumps from the roof onto a car, the windshield is shown cracking. Later, when Suvari is shown in the car, the windshield is intact. And when Rachel approaches her, the glass is cracked again.
