- Initially, Stephen Moyer was considered for the role of Steven. However, Moyer persuaded director Matthew Parkhill to give him the role of John, as his performance as Steven might be influenced by his participation in the series "True Blood" (2008-2014), where his character possessed a similar personality. Moyer, who had also considered this himself, agreed.
- Initially, it was a 25-minute BBC Scotland television project involving only two actors, who never appeared on screen together.
- Rachel Lefevre deliberately avoided Lorna Raver off-set, so that she, like her character in the film, would remain a mystery to her.
- While talking on the phone with Lorna Raver, director Matthew Parkhill discovered that her voice was much younger than he had imagined, and than was needed for the film. Upon learning of his doubts, the actress admitted that her agent had advised her to lower her voice to sound younger, believing she was too old for the role. Hearing Raver's natural voice, the director immediately cast her, even though her character is almost 30 years younger.
