What's left behind the scenes

  • Initially, Anastasia Mytrazhik was announced for the role of Zabava, and several scenes were filmed with her, but the role subsequently went to Ksenia Treyster.
  • Initially, Anastasia Mytrazhik was announced for the role of Zabava, and several scenes were filmed with her, but subsequently the role went to Ksenia Treyster. Ksenia Rappoport was cast as the Gypsy woman, but these scenes were retouched in the final film editing – her face is hidden behind a mask; the actress's name is not listed in the credits. The name of Danila Kozlovsky, who played Babok-Yezhek, is also absent from the credits.
  • More than 1500 costumes were sewn for the film.
  • Leonid Yarmolnik, who played the Tsar in the film, was constantly pricked by the crown and shoes, so he almost always wore slippers, and a page carried the crown for him – a role that had to be invented specifically for the film.
  • The exterior of the magical castle was filmed at the Marfino estate.
