- The film's title can be translated as "Scapegoat".
- Work on the project began as early as 2010. Tom Cruise, Keanu Reeves, Nicolas Cage, Jason Statham, and Dwayne Johnson were considered for the role of the main character.
- Ryan Gosling (who played Colt Seavers) had 8 stunt doubles.
- The film-within-a-film "Metalstorm" is based on the science fiction action film "Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn" (1983) by Charles Band. The entire concept, costumes, setting (the desert), and car stunts are reminiscent of Band's film, which was described as a mix of "Star Wars" and "Mad Max." The slogan for the film-within-a-film "Metalstorm…": "The end of the universe. Noon" – is analogous to the slogan of Sam Irvin's science fiction comedy "Oblivion 2: Retaliation" (1996).
- During the rehearsal of the scene where the characters reunite, played by Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt (Colt and Jodie), the actress wore a wide-brimmed hat that kept blowing off her head whenever she landed near the helicopter. Gosling decided this added humor to the scene and asked Blunt to wear the same hat during filming.
- To a certain extent, Emily Blunt's portrayal of Jodie was inspired by Greta Gerwig.
- The film's title can be translated as 'Scapegoat'.
