What's left behind the scenes

  • Stringer Davis (who played Mr. Stringer) was married to Margaret Rutherford, the actress who played Miss Marple. The role of Jim Stringer was created specifically for him; there is no such character in Agatha Christie’s novels.
  • Margaret Rutherford’s character mentions Agatha Christie’s “wonderful novel” called “The Ninth Life.” This is a fictional book; Christie never wrote anything like it.
  • The name Enderby in the original novel was the name of the manor house where the first victim lived. It is also the name of a settlement in Leicestershire County, where the film’s director, George Pollock, was born.
  • Flora Robson played Cora, and also played Miss Milcrest. Her corpse is shown on screen, and before that, she herself appears in the scene of the will reading at the table.
