What's left behind the scenes
- In this film, Monroe first performed the song "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend," which, in her rendition, became a golden classic among songs from 1950s films.
- The ship model used in the film remained from the set of "Titanic." It was only slightly retouched to resemble the liner "Queen Mary" in shape.
- It was planned to dub Monroe's voice, as studio executives considered it "too silly."
- Although director Howard Hawks liked the footage, Marilyn insisted on new takes. Once, a producer asked Hawks, "Can you speed up filming?" Hawks replied, "To do that, three things need to happen: fire Monroe, rewrite the script to make it shorter, and hire a new director."
- Initially, 20th Century Fox planned to cast Betty Grable in the role of Lola. The success of "Niagara" led the studio executives to pay attention to Marilyn Monroe. Ultimately, the role went to Marilyn. It was a favorable deal: Marilyn was paid $18,000, while Grable would have cost $150,000.
