What's left behind the scenes
- The house shown in the film was built “from scratch” to be indistinguishable from a real house near Westport in the Canadian province of Ontario. Originally, filming was planned in Canada, but due to difficulties with the schedules of the actors involved, it would have had to be filmed in winter, which would have contradicted the plot. An exact replica of the house was built in Australia.
- According to cinematographer Mátyás Erdély, he and director and screenwriter Garth Davis intended to shoot the film on 35mm film, but due to insufficient budget and problems with developing in Australia, they had to shoot on digital equipment.
