Short description
Charles Duchemin, a well-known gourmet and publisher of a famous restaurant guide, is waging a war against fast food entrepreneur Tri- catel to save the French art of cooking. After having agreed to appear on a talk show to show his skills in naming food and wine by taste, he is confronted with two disasters: his son wants to become a clown rather than a restaurant tester and he, the famous Charles Duchemin, has lost his taste!

What's left behind the scenes

  • In 1975, after a heart attack, Louis de Funès stopped acting. With the film 'L'aile ou la cuisse' (Wing or the Leg), he returned to the film industry.
  • Scenes at the food production factory were filmed at the "Aire de Nemours" facility, located south of Paris.
  • The Tricatel bureau is located in La Défense – a modern business district in the western part of Paris.
  • The "Dushmen" restaurant guide is a nod to "Michelin" – the famous restaurant rating.
  • The film's authors were inspired by French industrialist Jacques Borel – the "Napoleon of fast food" – when creating the character of Tricatel, played by Julien Guiomar. Borel was, in the 1970s in France, an embodiment of unhealthy food. Like Jacques Borel, Jacques Tricatel is depicted as a pragmatic and somewhat coarse man.
  • Pierre Richard was considered for the role of Gérard Dushmen, but ultimately Kolush replaced him at short notice, as Richard was already committed to another film ("Nowhere to Run").
  • In the display case of Russian books, featuring a guidebook by Dushmen, are books that have nothing to do with cooking – books on Russian phonetics and grammar, an animal registry, and among them is noticeable the cover of Emelyan Yaroslavsky’s “Bible for Believers and Non-Believers.”
  • In 1975, after a heart attack, Louis de Funès stopped making films. With "L'aile ou la cuisse" (Wing or the Thigh), he returned to the film industry.
  • The creation of the character Tricatel, played by Julien Guiomar, was inspired by the French industrialist Jacques Borel – the "Napoleon of fast-food snacks", who in the 1970s in France embodied unhealthy food. Following the example of Jacques Borel, Jacques Tricatel is depicted as a pragmatic and somewhat coarse man.
  • Pierre Richard was considered for the role of Gérard Duschemin, but ultimately Coluche replaced him at short notice, as Richard was already committed to another film ("The Wing or the Thigh").
