What's left behind the scenes

  • Jesse Plemons was offered the lead role, but had to decline due to filming commitments for "Killers of the Flower Moon".
  • The footage of a rider on horseback, who, according to O'Shea, is one of his and Emerald's ancestors, is a series of animated photographs from 1878. The series is called 'Sally Gardner at a Gallop.' Sally Gardner is the horse's name. The riders were named S. Marvin and J. Domm. They could very well have been African American, as Emerald claims.
  • The scene in which Emerald, played by Keke Palmer, delivers a speech on the set about her family history was filmed 14 times. According to director and screenwriter Jordan Peele, the scene came out differently in every take.
  • The first horror film shot with IMAX cameras.
