What's left behind the scenes

The American version of the film, in addition to the changed title, was also shortened from 104 to 85 minutes. Several dialogues and a scene where Lionel calms a zombie by giving it whiskey were cut, in addition to scenes of violence.
The rat-monkey puppet was animated using stop-motion technology by Peter Jackson himself.
Skull Island is the very island inhabited by the legendary King Kong. In Peter Jackson’s 'King Kong', there is an empty cage on board the ship with a sign reading ‘Sumatran Rat-Monkey’. Skull Island was filmed in the same location as the Paths of the Dead in 'The Return of the King'.
Elizabeth Moody, who played Vera Cosgrove, appeared in the extended edition of 'The Lord of the Rings' as Lobelia Sackville-Baggins at Bilbo’s birthday party.

When filming the scene of the final lawnmower massacre, "blood" was sprayed at a rate of 5 gallons per second.
The scene of zombies being minced by a lawnmower is one of the bloodiest in cinematic history. During the carnage, 40 zombies were killed and 400 liters of blood were spilled.
