What's left behind the scenes

  • In 1910, Paris actually experienced a flood that affected dozens of people and caused serious material damage to the city (equivalent to 2 million euros in today's money). Parisians gauge the severity of floods by the Zouave statue (near the Alma Bridge): if the water rises to its knees, the flood is moderately dangerous; if it rises to its thighs, it is a serious danger. In 1910, the water reached the Zouave's neck level (8.62 meters). This is considered to be the most serious flood in the history of Paris.
