What's left behind the scenes
- The main character was initially British, but after a script change, he became American.
- Nicolas Winding Refn admitted that he was inspired by the works of Gaspar Noé when filming this movie. The latter was spotted on the set in Bangkok and received special thanks in the end credits.
- This is the second film by Nicolas Winding Refn dedicated to Alejandro Jodorowsky (the first being "Drive" (2011)).
- The scenes were filmed in chronological order and edited each day after shooting.
- The idea for the film came to the director when his wife was pregnant with their second daughter. He felt anger and wanted to release it. Thus, he transferred his anxieties onto the image of a determined hero ready to enter an unequal fight.
