• The most difficult task for the visual effects artists turned out to be creating a wet saber-toothed tiger, as this required organically combining fur, wet fur, water, and convincing animation (dynamics) of the creature. The tiger was created by the progressive studio "Double Negative".
• Karen Gulakas oversaw the creation of the special effects for the film. Her main task was to revive extinct creatures of the Pleistocene epoch – mammoths, saber-toothed tigers, and predatory prehistoric birds.
• Filming began in spring 2006 in South Africa and Namibia. Filming also took place on the South Island of New Zealand.
