- One newspaper clipping mentions the 1878 war in Lincoln County, New Mexico. During this conflict, landowners hired gunmen (they were called regulators). The famous outlaw Billy the Kid was a regulator for a time.
- Billy the Kid's real name was William Henry McCarthy. The sheriff mentions that someone named Henry McCarthy was committing robbery in Arizona and New Mexico. It is claimed that Billy the Kid committed his first murder in Arizona, and spent a significant part of his outlaw career in New Mexico, where he was killed in 1881. Billy the Kid was born in 1859, so if he had lived until 1906, he would have been 47 years old.
