What's left behind the scenes
- Nicole Kidman was the first choice for the role of Mrs. Smith. In turn, the role of Mr. Smith was initially intended for Johnny Depp, but the actor was so busy with other projects that he preferred to decline the offer. Catherine Zeta-Jones and Cate Blanchett were also considered for the role of Mrs. Smith, and Will Smith could have played Mr. Smith.
- Brad Pitt left the project after Nicole Kidman withdrew. However, as soon as Angelina Jolie agreed to the role, the actor reaffirmed his participation.
- In order to obtain an acceptable rating for a film of this kind (PG-13), the filmmakers had to cut a bedroom scene between the characters of Pitt and Jolie.
- One of Mr. Smith’s victims, Benjamin, sports a t-shirt with the title of the film 'Fight Club' (1999) at the beginning of the film, in which Brad Pitt played one of the main roles.
