What's left behind the scenes

  • Several days before filming began in Egypt for the crime drama "Incident at the Nile Hilton" (2017) directed by Tarik Saleh, he was expelled from the country with a warning not to return. As a result, the film had to be shot in Casablanca, Morocco. Saleh is still considered persona non grata in Egypt, so although the script is set in Cairo, filming had to be organized in the Turkish capital, Istanbul, specifically at the Süleymaniye Mosque.
  • Director and screenwriter Tarik Saleh decided to make this film after rereading Umberto Eco's novel "The Name of the Rose" (1980). Saleh wondered at one point if a similar plot could be placed in a Muslim context, and the thought had haunted him ever since.
