- In the scene where King Richard (Patrick Stewart) kisses Marian, Mel Brooks' character says, "It's good to be king." The same phrase is uttered by King Louis XVI, played by Mel Brooks, in his 1981 film "History of the World, Part I."
- Throughout the film, the mole on Prince John's (Richard Lewis) face changes its location: sometimes it's on his left cheek, sometimes on his right, sometimes on his chin, sometimes on his forehead, and sometimes on his upper lip. This is a parody of "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves," in which a mole adorned the face of Alan Rickman’s character.
- While playing King Richard, Patrick Stewart spoke with a strong Scottish accent, imitating Sean Connery's performance in "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves."
- The role of the executioner was played by Robert Ridgely, who previously played the executioner in "Blazing Saddles," directed by Mel Brooks in 1974.
- Rumor has it that the idea for a parody of Robin Hood films was suggested by the son of one of the studio officials.
- The scene in which Don Giovanni (Dom DeLuise) pulls cotton balls out of his mouth parodies "The Godfather." It is known that Marlon Brando put cotton in his mouth during the audition for the role of Vito Corleone to resemble a bulldog.
- Dirty Ezio, played by Joe Dimaggio, was originally named Dirty Harry in the script, as Dimaggio bears a strong resemblance to Clint Eastwood. However, when Italian director Ezio Greggio visited the set one day, Mel Brooks decided to name the character after his colleague for a joke.
- In the scene where a group of soldiers beats Achu (David Chappelle), Robin Hood (Cary Elwes) says: "I hope someone got that on video," which is a reference to the noisy scandal that arose in connection with the beating of Rodney King by Los Angeles police in the early 1990s and captured on videotape. This incident, as is known, sparked unrest in Los Angeles.
