- Work on the project began in 2010. In August 2011, negotiations were underway with Keira Knightley for the leading role. In October of the same year, Haley Steinfeld and Deborah Ann Woll were considered for the roles of Juliet and Rosalind, respectively, and Dave Franco was considered for the role of Romeo.
