What's left behind the scenes

  • Jodie Comer and Stephen Graham had previously worked together on the mini-series “Good Cop” in 2012. Comer’s performance made such an impression on Graham that he immediately called his agent, Jane Epstein, from the set, and at his recommendation, she soon met with the relatively unknown actress at the time and subsequently became her agent. This greatly contributed to Comer’s career, and she and Graham formed a close friendship.
  • The mini-series features one continuous shot lasting approximately 26 minutes, which was filmed in only two takes. According to Jodie Comer, during the filming of the first take, she became distracted and lost herself in thought, but upon completion, she was confident that the shot had been filmed as required. To her surprise, director Mark Manden ordered a reshoot. It was this second take that ultimately made it into the film.
  • Screenwriter Jack Thorne initially wanted to write a story about various aspects of nursing home life and the situation with elderly care in general, but he was dissuaded by producer George Faber. Thorne later admitted that he was afraid to write about the coronavirus pandemic, but after reading more materials on the subject, he realized its importance.
