  • When Lee Marvin (1924-1987) arrived on set in Helsinki, he had to be taken straight to the hospital due to a chronic illness caused by excessive alcohol consumption. The film's director, Michael Apted (1941-2021), ordered rehearsals to begin while Marvin was still in the hospital.
  • The Gorky Park shown in the film was not filmed on location in Moscow. One of Helsinki's parks, the capital of Finland – Kaisaniemi Park – stood in for Gorky Park.
