What's left behind the scenes

  • The performer of the role of the running bushman – N!xau – is a rather remarkable personality. Director Jamie Uys found him in a real bushman tribe in eastern Namibia. N!xau saw such a large number of white people for the first time in his life during the filming of the first part of the film, whose main plot unfolds in Botswana in 1980. After that, the bushman starred in the 2nd (1988) and 3rd installments of the film novella. Interestingly, in the third film, N!xau’s character ends up in Hong Kong, where he has to learn to survive in the stone jungle of a modern metropolis. The actor died in the mid-2000s, as befits a true hunter – during a hunt. While alive, being the owner of a house, a small number of cattle, and a car, N!xau still could not accept modern life and returned to the Namibian savanna to his tribesmen at the end of his life.
