Short description
While driving through the New Mexico Desert during a rainy night, the college students Jim Halsey and his girlfriend Grace Andrews give a ride to the hitchhiker John Ryder. While in their car, the stranger proves to be a psychopath threatening the young couple with a knife, but Jim succeeds to throw him out of the car on the road. On the next morning, the young couple sees John in another car.
What's left behind the scenes
- Rutger Hauer, who played John Ryder in the original film 'The Hitcher' (1986), was supposed to make a cameo appearance but ultimately declined.
- Sean Bean deliberately avoided interacting with the young actors in order to distance himself from them and better embody the role of the stranger-maniac.
- Jim drives an Oldsmobile 442.
- Although Eric Red's name is listed in the credits, he did not participate in writing the screenplay.
- Gracie is watching the film "The Birds" (1963) at the hotel.
- Director Dave Meyers can be seen in the photograph on John Ryder's driver's license – it is his likeness.
